FAQ
your questions answered
How far in advance should I book a newborn session?
Short answer: as soon as possible! :) Most clients schedule their newborn session around their 6th month of pregnancy. I recommend reaching out at least 2 months before your due date. I only take a limited number of newborn sessions per month, so definitely contact me to get on my schedule as soon as possible. Newborn sessions can be booked as soon as you like, I receive some clients who book a session shortly after confirming their pregnancy. A tentative session date will be scheduled, and then we finalize a date after baby is born, depending on if baby arrives a little early or a little later.
my baby is already here, is it too late to book??
First off, congrats on your new baby! :) I totally understand that sometimes people forget to book their newborn session in advance, or maybe baby arrived earlier than expected. Definitely reach out! I can't guarantee I will have an open date, but I will try my hardest to get you on the schedule as soon as possible. I never want to have to turn any client away, so be sure to contact me as soon as possible!
Do we have to bring our own props, blankets, etc.
to our Newborn session?
All you need to bring is yourselves! :) All props, wraps, blankets etc. are included with your session. All newborn clients have access to my fully equipped photography studio, which has an extensive newborn collection. That being said, you of course may bring an outfit or item with you that has special meaning to be photographed with your child.
What about wardrobe? Do you offer a client closet?
Yes! I have a full wardrobe of beautiful clothing for clients to wear during their sessions. From gorgeous dresses of all styles, sizes, and colors, to clothing for men, children, and babies. During our pre-session consultation, you can look through the entire SJM collection and try on anything you would like. The entire collection is available for clients no matter what type of session.
What if my baby is awake the entire session?
No worries! I have years of experience in newborn photography and posing newborns. I have a few tricks of the trade up my sleeves. :) Many parents are surprised at how I'm able to get your sweet one to sleep when they usually have trouble. That being said, I cannot guarantee a sleeping baby, but I also adore eye contact from alert babies. These are some of everyone's very favorite shots. However, if baby is inconsolable throughout the entire session and I am unable to capture any images for you (this has yet to EVER happen) I would gladly welcome you back for a complimentary session as soon as I can get you on my schedule.
How soon after birth do you hold newborn sessions?
Ideally, between 7-14 days old is the most desirable time to photograph newborns. This allows mom and baby to recover some from birth, while baby is still young enough that they are still sleepy and more easily posed. This allows for those super cute sleeping baby images that everyone adores!
Can we get some family/sibling pictures also?
Most definitely! All sessions include immediate family and sibling portraits as well. I want to capture every part of your story. Plus those Big Sis/Big Bro and images with Mom or Dad with baby are always everyone's favorites!
When during my pregnancy should maternity
portraits be taken?
The best time to photograph your Maternity portraits is between 30-34 weeks of pregnancy. This allows me to showcase your blossoming belly, but helps you to not be so far along into your pregnancy that you are too uncomfortable posing.
